How much of my donation goes to foster youth?
Dollar for dollar goes to foster youth. The employees of Positive Resistance
all are volunteers, from the director, board and workshop participants. This
helps keep overhead low.
Who developed the programs for Positive Resistance?
Keariene Muizz, our director created all the programs and partnerships. Her
research on development, Sigmund Freud and other noted psychologists have
garnished recognition from the historic American Psychoanalytic Association.
She has crafted each program keeping the challenges of foster youth in mind.
What is resilience?
Merriam-Webster defines resilience as the following:
1 : the capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after
deformation caused especially by compressive stress
2 : an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change
Keeping both definitions in mind, Positive Resistance is the only
organization in the country that focuses specifically on reinforcing this
amazing aspect of human nature and offers foster youth the tools to find
their resilience.
Are any members of your staff former foster youth?
Yes and No. Many of our volunteers are individuals who simply love what
Positive Resistance is working towards; individuals who can not image any
child being abused or even think of growing up without tools to manage that
type of negativity. Our cherished volunteers are true mentors. People who
make time to create resumes for youth, proofread letters for staff, phone
friends to bake cupcakes for workshops and invite business partners to
attend a fundraiser –average people making a phenomenal difference an hour
at a time.
On the other hand, both the director and coordinator of Positive Resistance
were in care at one time in their life. Finding their adult lives were a far
cry from the negative cycles that were predicted from their parenting, their
sense of pride turned into a personal conviction that can be felt to all.
Five years ago our director was looking for a sentence that embodied her
life and that is how our motto, A Broken Home Does Not Mean a Broken Life,
was born.
